RESULTS of the Stanton Bird Club field trip to Clary Hill, Union, ME,
8-11:30 am, Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006. Fair to partly cloudy, rising
wind from the NW, temperature in the 50s.

OBSERVERS: Club members Kathy Coriell, Joan and Stan DeOrsey, Susan
and Tom Hayward (leader and reporter), and Michael Reidy were joined
by Bates College biology professor Ryan Bavis and 8 Bates students:
Mike Ambra, Greg Foos, Laura Godfrey, Dash Hibbard, William Locke,
Mallory Rosenblatt, Meagan Ryan, and Ari Waldstein.

*Turkey Vulture
*Osprey
*Northern Harrier (fantastic views)
*Cooper's Hawk (dramatic encounter with a Kestrel--just after the
Bates party left--sorry guys!)
*American Kestrel (probably at least half a dozen)
Wild Turkey
Ring-billed Gull
Rock Dove
*Mourning Dove
Downy Woodpecker
*Blue Jay
*American Crow
*Common Raven
*American Robin
European Starling
*Savannah Sparrow (very good views)
House Finch
**there was a small flock of smaller-than-robin-sized birds that flew over a couple of times while we were there; Stan DeOrsey is pretty sure that they were American Pipits; I have to say that I'm not convinced, since I never saw any white outer tail feathers as they flew; another possibility is Cedar Waxwing.
