We had a great "walk" today. Six people ventured out on a very sunny
but
cool (ok, cold) day. We started at the Sanford Sewer Ponds where most
of
the ducks were on the other side of whichever pond we were looking at
regardless
of which side we were on. A bit disappointing but a number of
ducks were seen.
However the highlight was two Pectoral Sandpipers who
were seen well and relatively
closely in a very small pond. Lesser
Yellowlegs and one Greater Yellowlegs
were also seen in one binocular view.
We left Sanford and headed for Gilsland
Farm. They had an apple weekend
and were very busy but we got in easily, parked
easily, and with
directions from Stella we were off to find the Dickcissel,
who was most
cooperative ... along with many other good sparrows.
At
Gilsland we ate our lunch in a covered "tent-like-thing" with soft
seats,
in the sun. What it was, later in the afternoon they were to have
storytelling
there, but not only was it open for us, but the gentleman
storyteller came
by and entertained us with stories! A great way to eat
lunch.
Then it
was off to Yarmouth for the Pink-footed Geese. All three were
found quickly
(other people were there too) but it was at a distance
requiring the scope,
but still good views.
Many of the attendees got THREE life birds on the
trip, one at each
stop. But for me, the Dickcissel was the Bird-of-the-Day!
A great time
was had by all, with a great lunch to boot.
